19 of the Russian's 21 titles have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent the Russian player won his first trophy for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid period, managing just one win at the big events and undergoing a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in particular - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought competitive win over opponent Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden trophy following the Italian tournament and first on a hard court after spring of 2023.

The win also means the Russian has secured 21 championships at 21 different tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my children simultaneously, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and frequent reactions on court had led observers to doubt if his skill to compete at the elite level was finished.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, attempting to advance forward and play assertively, supported by an improved serve.

Medvedev fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging opponent, taking 4 of the concluding five games to take the lead.

Both players traded breaks in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden professional title, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

Moutet rescued 4 initial break points in a close third set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner earned the win with a rally at the net area, with Moutet unable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
