Diving into a Unique Steam Game Trial: Controlling a Piece of Feces with the Goal to Find the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is now live, and gamers have encountered numerous engaging independent titles. However, one catches the eye for its quirky concept. Called Unko Technica, this retro-inspired side-scrolling game lets you play a hero that is actually a piece of poop striving to navigate to a commode. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
Player controls is straightforward: just use a one button to leap. Across one hundred fifty levels, you'll face tough enemies and access a shop to acquire customizations for your dung hero.
Execute your movements with caution, since one wrong move means restarting the level. Jump on bubbles to propel your character to new heights, cross fragile platforms, and activate switches to reveal hidden paths. Gather UN-KOINS to purchase challenging game content as things ramps up.
Visually, the game shows off vibrant level designs and catchy background music. The simple graphics with moving abstract forms evokes memories of players of classic titles like Earthbound.
While it's tough to recall other games where you play as a piece of feces, video games often incorporated scatological themes. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, players craft throwables from character droppings. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ feces as soil enrichment. Unsurprisingly, this theme appears a lot in the role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Putting aside its goofy premise, Unko Technica has already garnered notable accolades, like being named best at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. This trial version is available now on Steam, with the final release set to launch on Steam on November 19.
